Betting and gambling is as old as the human race. The general conception is that gambling started in the United States. This is not at all true. Most casino games started in foreign countries. Many gambling games started in the classic Chinese society. A good example is Pai Gow Poker. This game has later been Americanized and is now known as Pai Gow. Casino’s themselves also have a long history. Gambling games were originally played in public halls meant for music and dancing. In the second half of the 19th century the name casino was introduced. The most famous casino was opened in Monte Carlo in 1861.

Casino’s can now be found all around the world and they almost all look alike. One of the most popular places for gambling is Las Vegas in the United States. There and in a few other places in Nevada, commercialized gambling is allowed by the law. Las Vegas is economically dependent on the city’s gambling industry, that has been active there since 1940. Casino’s spread from there to the rest of the country. Gambling was introduced in Atlantic City, New Jersey in 1978. A decade later casino’s were also opened on the reservations of native Americans. Other legal casino’s in the United States can be found on river boats.

With the introduction of the internet and the worldwide usage of it, online gambling was inevitable. Especially in the last few years a lot of casino’s have opened. A lot of games can be played like Roulette, Dice rolling and Blackjack. Online gamblers can also play with virtual fruit machines.
